Ghana Somubi Dwumdie (Ghana Participation Programme), is calling for proposals from disabled people’s groups and civil society organisations for grants to carry out disability advocacy in Ghana.

The Sustainability and Legacy Fund Grant is Ghana Somubi Dwumadie’s third call for proposals after two successful previous rounds.

The first call for proposal, COVID-19 Psychosocial Resilience Grant, enabled people with disabilities, including people with mental health conditions, as well as healthcare workers, to access psychosocial support and build their resilience to the impact of COVID-19.

The programme’s second call, Evidence and Effectiveness Grants, supported civil society organisations, including Disabled People’s Organisations and Women Rights Organisations to tackle stigma and discrimination against people with disabilities, including people with mental health conditions, and to advocate for their rights.

At the launch of the call in Accra on Wednesday, June 15, 2022,  the programme’s Team Leader, Lyla Adwan-Kamara said, “We expect the Sustainability and Legacy Fund to go a long way to boost grassroots organisations, and especially those that empower women with disabilities.”

“I encourage disabled people’s organisations and women’s rights groups, to apply for this opportunity”, she added.

The grants’ specific objectives are strengthening the institutional and technical capacity of small and grassroots Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Women Rights Organisations (WROs) and Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) to enable them to play a greater role in user-led approaches to claiming the rights of people with disabilities, including people with mental health conditions, and particularly women with disabilities and mental health conditions.

It also seeks to improve the wellbeing of, and empower people with disabilities, and especially women with disabilities and mental health conditions, through interventions implemented by small and grassroots SHGs, WROs and DPOs.

Interested applicants have up to 5pm on July 13, 2022, to submit their proposals. To apply, applicants must download the application pack from https://www.ghanasomubi.com/new-legacy-grants. The completed application pack must be submitted by email to grants@ghanasomubi.com

Ghana Somubi Dwumadie (Ghana Participation Programme) is a four-year disability programme in Ghana, with a specific focus on mental health.

The programme is funded by UK Aid from the UK government, and is run by an Options-led consortium, which consists of BasicNeeds-Ghana, Kings College London, Sightsavers International and Tropical Health.

The programme focuses on four key areas: Promoting stronger policies and systems that respect the rights of people with disabilities, including people with mental health disabilities, and scaling up high-quality and accessible mental health services

The others are reducing stigma and discrimination against people with disabilities, including mental health disabilities, and generating evidence to inform policy and practice on the effectiveness of disability and mental health programmes and interventions.
