The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) has recalled a faulty desktop printer from disabled graphic designer Mr Anthony Kwaku Appiah, as an exposé by DisabilityNewsGH.com plunges Assembly leadership into back-to-back emergency metings.
Following an initial emergency session with top Assembly management on Monday, August 24, 2026, which resulted in the directive to recall the machine, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Freeman Tsekpo summoned a second emergency meeting for 9:00 AM today, Wednesday, August 26, 2026, specifically with the Disability Fund Management Committee (FMC).
Mr Appiah officially handed over the faulty EPSON Ecotank L3251 desktop printer to Assembly officials on the morning of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, for technical assessment and replacement.
The swift recall comes 48 hours after DisabilityNewsGH.com exposed how officials shortchanged Mr Appiah by purchasing a GH₵2,300 desktop printer instead of the heavy-duty commercial printer valued at GH₵4,500 which he officially requested and was budgeted for at GH₵5,000.
While the emergency meeting and recall mark a major victory for investigative advocacy, it follows months of neglect during which Assembly staff repeatedly turned Mr Appiah away, claiming the manufacturer’s one-month warranty had expired.

Despite the recall, key questions remain unanswered:
1. Specification Requirement: Will the Assembly now procure the heavy-duty commercial printer originally requested by Mr Appiah to sustain his high-volume business, or will it attempt another inadequate replacement?
2. Accounting for the Missing Balance: The Assembly is yet to provide a transparent account of the GH₵2,700 budget balance remaining from his approved GH₵5,000 allocation.
3. Systemic “Tax” Deductions: The recall of a single printer does not address the broader, municipal-wide practice of deducting 7% “taxes” from cash and equipment allocations meant for PWDs across Ashaiman.
