A boy with mobility disability’s eight years of dragging his buttocks on the ground came to an end on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, when a Journalist with JoyNews donated a wheelchair to him.

Mr. Seth Kwame Boateng, Assistant Editor and documentary producer at JoyNews, presented an electronic wheelchair worth Ghc9,000 to Hamdan Sulle of the Kumasi Moshie Zongo Basic School.

8-year-old Hamdan Sulle, a Kindergarten 2 pupil has a physical disability. He was paralysed from birth and the only way he could move about was to drag his buttocks on the ground.

Besides having to deal with the challenges that come with having a child with a disability, Hamdan’s situation also presented his parents with the demand of always buying him new shorts or trousers, since his shorts, including that of the school uniform got torn in just a matter of weeks.

His four elder siblings also had to deal with carrying him on their backs to and from school every day.

Madam Veronica Nyarko, one of the teachers of the Kumasi Moshie Basic School sent a video of Hamdan to Mr. Kwame Boateng, who is known for supporting persons with disabilities, and asked if he could be of help.

That contact resulted in the gesture on Wednesday that has brought smiles not only to the faces of Hamdan and his family, but also the entire school.

Pictures and videos of the boy’s condition and the donation posted on social media got many people commending Mr. Kwame Boateng for the gesture.

Hamdan’s mother, madam Abiba Sullemana could not control her joy when she was contacted by DisabilityNewsGh.com.

She said she could not thank Mr. Boateng enough for the relief he brought to their family, especially Hamdan’s siblings.

Mr Boateng’s donation has also drawn the attention of a foundation which has promised to support the treatment of the boy’s condition.

The donation to Hamdan Sulle brings to 10, electronic wheelchairs donated to children with disabilities by Mr. Seth Kwame Boateng and his friends.

With support of friends, including those on social media, Mr Boateng also provided accessible ramps at some basic schools where he donated wheelchairs, to make movement easy for the beneficiaries.
