The seven-member committee established by the Presiding Member of the Ada East District Assembly has finally commenced hearings into the dispute between the disability community and some officials of the Assembly.

The start of the probe follows the committee’s inability to meet its initial January 15 deadline, a delay caused by the Assembly’s failure to provide the committee with a secretary.

The inquiry began on Monday, January 19, 2026, with testimonies from key stakeholders. Among those who appeared were the District Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), Mr. Addison Ayiku Akuaku; the GFD representative on the Fund Management Committee, Mr. Theophilus Dugbatey Ayim (who also serves as the committee’s chairman); and the District Social Welfare Director, Mr. Enoch Bampoe Addy.

The hearing schedule is set to continue as follows:
•  Tuesday, January 20: Mr. Ayim and Mr. Addy are expected to reappear, alongside the supplier and the District Coordinating Director.
•  Wednesday, January 21: The Purchasing Officer is scheduled to give his testimony.

The committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations to the Presiding Member shortly after the conclusion of these proceedings.

Administrative Hurdles
With the Assembly still failing to provide a secretary, the same issue that prevented the committee from meeting its January 15 deadline, the members were forced to appoint one of their own to record the minutes of the proceedings.

National Oversight
In a move to ensure a fair resolution, the Board Chairman of the National Council on Persons with Disability is also expected to visit the district on Tuesday, January 20. His presence is intended to provide national-level oversight and assist in finding a lasting solution to the disbursement dispute.
