Ghana and Norway co-hosted the second edition of the Global Disability Summit in February 2022; a virtual event that saw over 4,000 people participating across the world.

The International Disability Alliance initiative is intended to bring Governments around the world, Organisations of Persons with Disabilities and Civil Society Organisations together every four years to, among other things, mobilise targeted and concrete commitments on disability inclusion and inclusive development.

The Government of Ghana, this year, made seven (7) commitments in consultation with the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations/Organisations of Persons with Disabilities, who are expected to monitor governement’s implementations efforts.

The commitments released recently cover the following thematic areas: Inclusive Education, Inclusive Employment and Livelihoods, Inclusive Health and Inclusion in situations of crisis and conflict.

They others are Capacity-strengthening of Organizations of persons with disabilities in the Global South, Gender, Including a focus on climate change and Crosscutting issues such as Comprehensive harmonization of existing policies and legislations of Ghana in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as well as implementation of the Accessibility Standards on the Built Environment.
