Young people with disabilities were encouraged to pursue their ambitions and take active roles in shaping their communities during an event marking International Youth Day 2026 in the Gomoa West District.
Held under the theme “Inclusive Future – Youth with Disability Leading Change,” the event celebrated two young people with disabilities who are thriving in their respective fields and contributing to society.
Public health nurse and disability inclusion advocate Miss Gifty Akosua Adzigbey, who hosted the event, said the speakers shared their journeys from basic school through university and spoke about how they were giving back to their communities.
Their experiences, she said, demonstrated how determination and support can help young people confront barriers and pursue opportunities.
The programme also featured contributions from Professor Gyimah of the University of Cape Coast, Mr Ainoo of the Ghana Education Service in Gomoa West, and Ms Suriya, who joined from Texas in the United States.
Their contributions enriched discussions on disability, education, youth leadership and inclusion, while encouraging participants to consider how communities and institutions can better support young people with disabilities.
Miss Adzigbey described the event as an eye-opening experience and a reminder to young people with disabilities that their aspirations remain possible.
“There is hope, and there is a future for everyone,” she said.
Miss Adzigbey thanked Rev. Jehu Appiah of Mepheboshet Training Centre, Mr Daniel Quansah of the Gomoa West District Health Directorate, Mr Onumah and others who supported the preparation of the event.
She said creating platforms for young people with disabilities to share their experiences and leadership could help build more inclusive communities.
“Together, we are shaping inclusive futures,” she said.
