GH Media School, a private media training institute based in Achimota-Accra, has set itself apart as the only disability-friendly media school in the country.

The school has so far trained a blind Journalist two years ago and currently has a deaf student, Akusika Nukunu Deku at level 200, pursuing Journalism and Media Arts, who is on the verge of becoming the first ever deaf Journalist in Ghana.

This academic year (2022-2023 academic year), GH Media School once again admitted a blind student, King Faisal Yakubu Azangbego, offering Journalism and Media Studies.

Before his admission, King Faisal, who wants to be a sports presenter, struggled for years for the opportunity to study Journalism, a profession he is very passionate about.

For over two years, King Faisal’s family was combing through the media schools in the country, including Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) and GBC radio school but to no avail, as the schools complained of unavailability of training facilities for blind Students.

The family got frustrated and gave up. King Faisal was later sent to South Africa in 2019, to pursue Islamic Studies. But he opted to abort the course and come back to Ghana, when he heard about the opportunity at GH Media School.

In an interview with DisabilityNewsGH, King Faisal expressed his excitement for the chance to finally pursue his dream and was hopeful of becoming  the best in his field of study.

He is a product of Wa and Akropong Schools for the blind, where he had his basic and senior high education respectively.

King Faisal, 25, who is known as a sports encyclopedia, was a regular panellist on Bolgatanga based A1 Radio’s sports show, ‘WHAT’S THE SCORE’, before his travel to South Africa.
