The Ghana National Association of the Deaf (GNAD) has successfully conducted a one-day anti-bullying awareness programme aimed at empowering deaf students at the Senior Technical School for the Deaf in Mampong and the Bechem School for the Deaf.
The initiative targeted students aged 10 to 24, providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary to identify, resist, and report bullying within their school communities.
The primary objective of the programme was to broaden the students’ understanding of what constitutes bullying and to highlight the profound, often harmful, psychological and physical effects it can have on young people.
Through a series of interactive sessions, participants explored the various forms of bullying and engaged in practical exercises on how to respond to such incidents effectively.
A key component of the training focused on “reporting channels.” Students were educated on the specific protocols and appropriate authorities within their schools to whom they should report bullying.
By clarifying these steps, GNAD aims to ensure that students feel confident and supported when speaking out against harassment.
The long-term goal of the initiative is to significantly reduce the incidence of bullying in both Mampong and Bechem Deaf Schools.

By cultivating a culture of mutual respect and safety, GNAD and its partners hope to create a supportive learning environment where every student can thrive academically and socially.
This vital initiative is supported by The Being Initiative, hosted by Grand Challenges Canada, and funded by the Government of Canada.
Through these partnerships, GNAD continues to lead advocacy efforts that prioritise the well-being and safety of the Deaf community in Ghana.
