Disability organizations, Autism and Intellectual Developmental Differences Intervention Network (AIDDIN) and Butterfly Ghana Foundation in collaboration with World Connect, have organized a free health screening exercise for persons with disabilities (PWDs) at Keta in the Volta Region on Saturday, February 12, 2022.

The exercise which was the first of its kind for persons with disabilities in the area, saw some 83 PWDs and their aids screened for Hepatitis B, Blood glucose level, breast, mental health, ear and throat issues.

Children perceived to be having developmental challenges were also screened. There was a health talk and free medication for the beneficiaries.

Head of interventions, training and outreach at AIDDIN, Madam Yesutor Gbewonyo Amedofu told DisabilityNewsGH that the exercise was their first ever health screening and would hopefully be an annual event.

Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzidzorli Gakpey who was present to witness the event was full of praise for the organizers, and asked for more of such activities for persons with disabilities.

The beneficiaries expressed their joy and thanked the organizers profusely for the exercise.

They told DisabilityNewsGH how conducive the environment was and how much they felt at home during the exercise.

The Keta Municipal Chairperson of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations, Madam Sherita Kudoda, appealed to other organizations to reach out to them in other aspects, like helping them with skills training and sponsoring their younger ones to acquire higher education to enable them live independent lives.
