The Krowor Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has successfully disbursed a total of GH₵267,600.00 from the Persons with Disabilities Common Fund, covering allocations for the first two quarters of this year.

The disbursement event, which took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, saw 74 persons with disabilities benefit from various forms of support, including start-up items and financial assistance.

The majority of beneficiaries received direct cash for economic empowerment, enabling them to invest in existing businesses or initiate new ones.

Three individuals received essential business items: one tricycle, a knitting machine, and a chest freezer to bolster their entrepreneurial ventures.

Additionally, five persons received support for critical healthcare needs, while two individuals were granted educational assistance.

Other crucial components of the fund, including NHIS registration and renewal, capacity building, and skills training programmes, are scheduled to be rolled out in the coming weeks.

The event was graced by the Member of Parliament for the Krowor Constituency, who also serves as the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.

Minister Lartey underscored President Mahama’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities receive their equitable share of state resources.

She also appealed directly to beneficiaries to utilise the monies and items for their intended purposes to foster sustainable development.

In a moving gesture, Minister Lartey made a personal donation of GH₵2,000.00 worth of detergents and personal effects to support a special needs child. This child, received a substantial GH₵23,100.00 from the fund for a full year’s private special school fees.

The Krowor Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paul Afotey Quaye, also attended the occasion, witnessing the successful exercise.
