Founder Hon. Deborah Borquaye highlighted the significant financial challenges faced by many of the association’s members. “Most of our members are poor,” she explained. “Our vision is to empower widows through collaboration and networking, helping them build sustainable incomes using their skills.”

She acknowledged the contributions of several organisations over the years, including the British Council, Social Welfare Department, and Community Development Department, for their invaluable support.

FFWA’s goals include providing business opportunities for widows and their dependents within the municipality. To achieve this, the group is requesting donations to purchase a poly tank and a tricycle to generate revenue.

Furthermore, they are appealing for laptops and a projector to enhance their educational campaigns. These campaigns focus on income-generating activities, healthy lifestyles, and effective childcare—often involving the care of grandchildren.

The anniversary celebration, which spanned a week, included a health walk, health screening, a durbar, and culminated in a Thanksgiving service on Sunday, December 1st, 2024. The association also extended an invitation to widowers to join their ranks.

Mr. Alex Tetteh of the Krowor Municipal Social Welfare Department, who chaired the anniversary durbar, congratulated the leaders and members of FFWA on their impactful work. He added his voice to the calls for support, emphasising the importance of improving the living conditions of widows in the community.

Madam Borquaye expressed hope that other organisations and public-spirited individuals would answer their call for support. “With these resources,” she said, “we can reach the heights we’ve been dreaming of and further assist the widows in our community.”
