VOWACGhana Launches Dignity Kits Bank in Special Schools, Appeals for Public Support
In a bid to transition from one-off charity donations to sustainable, long-term support for girls with disabilities, the Voices of Women and Children with Disabilities in Ghana (VOWACGhana) has officially announced the establishment of the "Dignity Kits Bank" initiative across all special schools in the country.

In a bid to transition from one-off charity donations to sustainable, long-term support for girls with disabilities, the Voices of Women and Children with Disabilities in Ghana (VOWACGhana) has officially announced the establishment of the “Dignity Kits Bank” initiative across all special schools in the country.

The initiative is designed to create a continuous, reliable supply of sanitary and hygiene products directly within special schools.

This will ensure that girls have access to menstrual and personal care products whenever they need them, preventing them from missing classes or suffering emotional distress during their menstrual cycles.

Many girls in special schools come from low-income households where buying sanitary pads and basic toiletries is treated as a luxury. While occasional donations help, menstruation is a monthly occurrence.

The Dignity Kits Bank functions like a physical depository in each school, managed by designated female teachers or housemothers. Whenever a girl runs out of sanitary pads, soap, panties, deodorant, or toothpaste, she can freely access the “Bank” to restock, guaranteeing uninterrupted comfort and hygiene throughout the academic term.

To keep these Dignity Kits Banks continuously stocked, VOWACGhana is calling on the general public, religious bodies, corporate institutions, and Ghanaians in the diaspora to join the cause.

“We cannot do this alone,” a statement from VOWACGhana noted. “A girl’s dignity should not be on standby until the next donation event. By establishing these banks, we are creating a safety net for our girls. We encourage individuals to donate sanitary pads, panties, soaps, toothpaste, and deodorants, or support us financially so we can purchase these items in bulk.”

Members of the public who wish to support the Dignity Kits Bank initiative can donate physical hygiene products directly to VOWACGhana or contribute through their official Mobile Money number: 0559-07 66 27 to keep the shelves of these banks full.

Through this initiative, VOWACGhana hopes to foster an environment where special needs girls can focus on their education with confidence, pride, and total peace of mind.
