The General Assembly of Ada East District is scheduled to formally receive the investigation report into the management and allocation of the Disability Common Fund during its two-day ordinary session opening this week
The Presiding Member of the Ada East District Assembly, Hon. Philip Achia confirmed to DisabilityNewsGH.com that the investigation report will be officially laid before the house on Friday, July 31, 2026, as part of the assembly’s two-day sitting starting Thursday.
The presentation of the report comes after months of intense scrutiny and a standoff between local disability leaders and assembly authorities over the disbursement of the Disability Common Fund, which was recently increased from 3 to 5 per cent.
Background to the Standoff
The investigation was triggered following serious allegations of administrative interference raised by the local Disability Fund Management Committee (DFMC) and PWD leaders in the Ada East District.
As previously reported by DisabilityNewsGH.com, local PWD representatives accused top assembly officials – including the District Chief Executive (DCE) and the Coordinating Director – of attempting to bypass the independent committee to force the procurement and distribution of unauthorised items, including reports of compromised, weevil-infested livelihood goods.
The controversy in Ada East contributed to a broader national debate on local government interference in PWD funds, culminating in a floor statement in Parliament by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, alongside a recent national circular from the Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) stripping MMDCEs, Coordinating Directors, and Finance Officers of membership on local DFMCs.
