The Centre for Employment of Persons with Disabilities (CEPD) has secured a landmark loan facility for entrepreneurs with disabilities and caregivers of persons with disabilities. In partnership with Absa Bank and MasterCard Foundation, the loan is disbursed through Maroon Capital Microfinance, aiming to support over 600 registered members of the Chamber of Entrepreneurs with Disabilities.
With a total value of over Gh¢2million, the loan offers a subsidised interest rate of 20% and a repayment period of one year. Since early June 2024, Gh¢511,500 has already been disbursed to beneficiaries in the Eastern and Greater Accra Regions.
The initiative has benefited individuals in Koforidua, Somanya, Ningo-Prampram, and Ada West. Disbursement in the Ada East District, Greater Accra Region, is scheduled for the first week of July.
In an interview with DisabilityNewsGH.com, CEPD President Alexander Tetteh expressed hope that the initiative will significantly improve the economic conditions of persons with disabilities in Ghana. He urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely and adhere to the repayment agreement, ensuring that the opportunity remains available to others.
As a leading advocate for the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities, CEPD engages in policy advocacy, training, and capacity-building workshops for entrepreneurs and job seekers with disabilities. The organisation played a key role in establishing the Ghana Chamber of Entrepreneurs with Disabilities.
This loan facility marks a significant step towards promoting financial inclusion and economic independence for persons with disabilities in Ghana.
