The launch event, held on June 13, 2024, at the Great Hall of the University, brought together stakeholders committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity. The Ambassadors for Students with Disabilities include Mr. Kwabena Ntim, Ms. Doris Asante, Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, and Mrs. Victoria De-Graft Adjei.

SRC President, Ms. Yvonne Adobea Osei, highlighted the importance of individualized support for students with disabilities, eradicating discrimination and ensuring care and accountability within the student body.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, congratulated the newly appointed ambassadors and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to an all-inclusive and supportive environment. She encouraged the ambassadors to be champions of change and highlighted KNUST’s initiatives, including the Disability Policy and Equality and Diversity Policy, as evidence of its commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity.

The programme includes a mentor-mentee system, specially designed rooms in campus hostels, and frequent training programmes to ensure sustainability. The University has also appointed a Disability Champion and an Advisory Committee chaired by a person with a disability to coordinate support activities.

The ambassadors were sworn in by Rev. Fr. Dr. Stephen Kofi Jantuah, Chief Counsellor at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at KNUST, marking the formal commencement of their roles.

This initiative is a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for students with disabilities at KNUST.
