The student, who was initially offered admission to pursue a Doctorate in Public Health, had his acceptance revoked without explanation, leaving him deeply distressed and traumatised.

In a press statement, the Forum revealed that the University, after initially offering admission, contacted the student to claim the offer was a mistake and instructed him to disregard all previous communication. This sudden reversal has left the student deeply distressed and traumatised.

The student believes the University’s decision to revoke his admission was motivated by his disability.

“The applicant, who met all necessary admission requirements, believes the University’s actions were discriminatory, based on his disability,” the statement added.

Despite sending a letter requesting an explanation, the Ghana Disability Forum’s lawyers received no response from KNUST, who did not even acknowledge receipt of the letters. This lack of response, the group argues, demonstrates a blatant disregard for the rights of people with disabilities.

As a result, the Ghana Disability Forum has decided to pursue legal action against KNUST.
