The Ghanaian disability community is in mourning, following the passing of Adam Abdul Wahab, a dedicated advocate and communicator for disability rights.
Wahab, a prominent member of the Ghana Association of Persons with Albinism (GAPA) and a staff member of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), passed away on January 20, 2025, after a short illness.
The news of his death was met with deep sadness across the disability sector in Ghana. Wahab was known for his eloquent and inclusive communication style, which made him a powerful advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities, particularly those with albinism.
According to a statement released by the Executive Director of GAPA, Mr. Newton Katseku on January 21, 2025, Wahab has been buried in accordance with Islamic traditions.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Adam Abdul Wahab,” the statement read. “He was a valued member of Ghana Association of Persons with Albinism (GAPA), a staff of Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), and an eloquent disability-inclusive communicator. He passed away yesterday after a short illness.”
The passing of Adam Abdul Wahab is a significant loss for the disability community in Ghana. His dedication, passion, and effective communication were a tremendous asset in advancing the cause of disability rights and inclusion. His contributions will be deeply missed by his colleagues, friends, and all those who worked alongside him.
