Inclusive Tech Group in partnership with Internet Society Ghana Chapter, has trained 20 persons with disabilities from Tarkwa and surrounding communities as part of efforts to promote safer, more inclusive, and resilient participation in the digital space.

The one-day training was held at the AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Inclusive Tech Lab at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) under the theme, “Building Digital Trust, Safety and Resilience for Everyone.”

Held on August 13, 2026, the training focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills to identify online risks and protect themselves while using digital technologies.

Participants learned about the importance of protecting personal information, while gaining practical skills to recognse common scams, impersonation attempts, and suspicious messages.

They were encouraged to pause, check, and confirm information before clicking links, sharing personal details, or taking action online.

The training also covered practical ways to protect accounts, passwords, mobile phones, and application permissions, as well as how to respond to cyberbullying, harassment, threats, and compromised accounts.

Participants learned how to preserve useful evidence, report incidents, seek support from trusted individuals and relevant institutions, and developed personal online safety action plans to apply these lessons in their everyday digital activities.

For the deaf participants, the training was particularly significant. They shared that language and communication barriers often make them feel vulnerable in the digital space and tend to limit their ability to understand online risks or seek help when problems occur.

The accessible and inclusive nature of the training provided an opportunity for them to engage directly with digital safety information, ask questions, and build greater confidence in navigating the online environment.

The initiative was funded by the Internet Society Foundation through the Internet Society Ghana Chapter and supported by the Cybersecurity Authority, Ghana.

This collaboration highlights the commitment of the Internet Society and Internet Society Foundation to ensuring that digital inclusion goes beyond providing access to devices and connectivity. It also requires ensuring that persons with disabilities have the knowledge, skills, and support needed to participate safely, confidently, and meaningfully in the digital world.

Through this collaboration, the partners are contributing to efforts to strengthen digital safety awareness and ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind as Ghana becomes increasingly digital.
