Mr. Napoleon Abdulai, Ghana’s Ambassador to Mali, has pledged his support for improving the living conditions of little people in Ghana.
During a meeting with a Ghanaian delegation at the 2nd African Forum of Little People in Bamako, Mali, Ambassador Abdulai outlined a number of initiatives he will undertake to advocate for this community.
The delegation, which included a journalist from DisabilityNewsGH.com and Madam Sophie Akua Acheampong, President of the Little People Association of Ghana, met with the Ambassador on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
The meeting followed the Ambassador’s earlier invitation to the delegation, who had traveled to Mali for the forum, which took place from October 13 to 18.
During the meeting, the delegation discussed the significant challenges faced by little people in Ghana, including high rates of illiteracy, unemployment, and poor living conditions.
Madam Acheampong highlighted the untapped potential of her community and emphasised how, if harnessed, they could contribute to the betterment of their personal lives, families, and the nation as a whole.
The delegation also informed Ambassador Abdulai of the appointment of Madam Acheampong as Chair of the Conflict Resolution Committee of the African Federation of Associations of Little People.
Ambassador Abdulai expressed his enthusiasm for this appointment, describing it as “refreshing news”. As his term of office is set to end in the next two weeks, he promised to leave a note for the next Ambassador, requesting that they provide Madam Acheampong with all necessary support during future visits to Mali.
In addition to his general support for the community, Ambassador Abdulai announced a specific initiative. He will facilitate the enrollment of a young Ghanaian with dwarfism, who has developed an innovative method for producing pavement tiles from plastic waste, into a technological university in Mali.
The Ambassador also pledged to bring the plight of little people in Ghana to the attention of Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate, to seek solutions.
This meeting underscores the crucial role diplomacy can play in addressing societal issues and promoting inclusion. Ambassador Abdulai’s commitment to supporting little people in Ghana demonstrates a positive and impactful approach to addressing the unique challenges faced by this community.
