The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), in strategic partnership with the National Communications Authority (NCA), will convene a national commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD 2025) on Wednesday, 3 December 2025.
The high‑level event will take place at NCA Towers, Accra, starting promptly at 9:00 a.m., and will assemble government representatives, development partners, private‑sector leaders, innovators and disability rights advocates.
Under the global theme “Fostering disability‑inclusive societies for advancing social progress” and Ghana’s local theme “Assistive Technology: Empowering lives, Advancing Inclusion,” the convening will showcase national progress on disability inclusion, highlight remaining gaps, and press for measurable action that moves policy and practice beyond rhetoric.
The day will blend policy dialogue, innovation demonstration, public storytelling and institutional recognition. Organisers say the event is designed as “a national moment of reflection, accountability and celebration” to galvanise multi‑sectoral partnerships for inclusive development.
Key programme items include:
– GFD Honours & Awards Ceremony recognising individuals, institutions, policymakers, corporate bodies and development partners whose leadership and investment have advanced the disability movement.
– Assistive Technology Innovation & Exhibition featuring prototypes and solutions from Ghanaian researchers and innovators — with a particular spotlight on female innovators with disabilities.
– High‑level panel dialogue engaging leaders from government, academia, industry and civil society on building a resilient, inclusive communications‑technology and innovation ecosystem.
– Keynote addresses from national and global partners shaping discourse on disability rights, inclusive governance and equitable development.
– Launch of the “GFD Journey Chronicle,” a documented history of Ghana’s disability rights movement, tracing advocacy milestones, leadership transitions and strategic victories.
– Cultural performances and creative expressions that celebrate the artistic heritage and advocacy power of persons with disabilities.
– An interactive quiz competition broadcast on GTV between Mampong School of the Deaf and Akropong School of the Blind.
GFD has invited all stakeholders — including Ministries, Metropolitan/Municipal/District Assemblies, civil society organisations, media, academia and private‑sector actors — to participate and renew collective commitment to an inclusive Ghana where no citizen is left behind.
About the organisers: the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations is the national umbrella body for organisations of persons with disabilities in Ghana, with more than two decades of work on policy reform, rights protection and inclusive development. The National Communications Authority joins as strategic partner to amplify conversations around technology, accessibility and inclusive communications.
The convening is positioned as a platform for action: beyond celebrating innovations and achievements, organisers intend to present clear recommendations for scaling assistive technologies, strengthening inclusive policy implementation and deepening public‑private collaboration to advance social and economic inclusion for persons with disabilities.
