The programme, a part of the broader READY for Inclusive Sustainable Employment and Entrepreneurship (RISEE) project, aims to empower individuals with disabilities to fully participate in the Ghanaian job market.

“Today marks another step in our collective effort to empower persons with disabilities to participate fully in the Ghanaian job market,” said Programme Manager, Samson Addo, on behalf of Sightsavers Country Representative, David Agyemang.

“This training programme is a contribution to bridging that gap, equipping participants with the skills they need not only to access opportunities but to thrive in them”, he added.

The RISEE project, funded by the Standard Chartered Foundation and implemented by Sightsavers, Challenges Ghana, and the Ghana Blind Union, has a goal of placing 270 persons with disabilities into sustainable employment over its three-year duration, which began in April 2024.

The graduates testified about how the project has helped them hone and shape their skills for the job market through various activities.

Addressing employers across the country, the Sightsavers representative made a direct appeal: “Open your doors. Persons with disabilities are not just looking for jobs; they are bringing skills, commitment, and fresh perspectives that will strengthen your businesses. They are ready—all they need is a chance.”

He emphasised that inclusion is not charity but an opportunity for businesses to benefit from untapped potential.

Sightsavers also announced that it is expanding its training opportunities, with upcoming programmes in digital entrepreneurship and employability training in high-demand industries.

The organisation is also seeking partnerships for mentorship and internship placements to provide graduates with essential real-world experience.
