Somotex Ghana, a leading retailer, is taking significant steps towards fostering a more inclusive and diverse workplace through a new partnership with the Ghana National Association of the Deaf (GNAD).
The collaboration has resulted in a comprehensive sensitisation programme designed to equip Somotex staff with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively interact with and support Deaf colleagues.
Inspired by the successful integration of Deaf staff at its sister company, KFC Ghana (under the Mohinani Group), Somotex is actively exploring opportunities to recruit Deaf individuals as salespeople in its showrooms.

This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to creating equal opportunities and valuing diverse perspectives within its workforce.
The sensitisation programme, held across various Electromart showrooms in Haatso, East Legon, and the Accra Industrial Area head office, reached over 50 staff members. The training focused on several key areas:
. Deaf Culture and Way of Life: Providing a deeper understanding of Deaf culture and experiences.
• Basic Sign Language: Equipping staff with fundamental sign language skills to facilitate communication.
• Effective Communication: Training staff on strategies for effective communication with Deaf colleagues and customers.
• Inclusive Workplace Practices: Promoting best practices for building a supportive and welcoming environment for all employees.

GNAD expressed its strong support for Somotex Ghana’s initiative, praising the company for its leadership in promoting a workplace where individuals of all abilities feel valued.
“Together, we’re building a more inclusive Ghana!” GNAD stated in a press release.
This partnership between Somotex Ghana and GNAD marks a significant step towards promoting inclusivity and diversity in the Ghanaian business landscape.
The programme signals a commitment to creating a workplace that is not only equitable and just but also reflective of the rich diversity of Ghanaian society.
Somotex’s proactive approach serves as a positive example for other businesses to emulate, demonstrating how corporate social responsibility can create both social impact and business value.
